As Black Friday approaches, retailers are readying themselves for their shelves to empty nearly as quickly as the decline of the world’s turkey population. There are few more important dates in the retail calendar so this week it will be more vital than ever to ensure that your Twitter messaging is being seen by the right people at the right time.

The National Retail Federation reported last year that 247 million shoppers visited stores and websites over Black Friday weekend, spending an estimated $59.1 billion. In a blog post published last week, Twitter revealed that 85% of its users will shop on Black Friday and 60% of those told of how Twitter plays an important role in influencing their Black Friday shopping habits.

With Twitter commanding such high influence over the spending habits of millions of shoppers, knowing when these people are online is essential for businesses looking to promote their Black Friday offerings on the network.

By analysing the Twitter users that have taken part in #Blackfriday to date, we have been able to project the best time to tweet for each of the US time zones and in the UK on the big day. Check out the results below.

PST California

EST New York

BST London

CET Madrid

As you can see, the optimal periods vary in each time zone. For example, if you’re located in downtown LA, your tweets are likely to be most visible between 13:00 and 19:00, but if you’re based in Berlin on CET, 11:00 until 17:00 should yield the best results. So timing is everything when it comes to making the most of your Twitter activity.

You can also use SocialBro to further breakdown this information, helping you to tailor your messaging to specific community members.

  • Use the ‘Best Time to Tweet’ tool to create a customised report.
  • The filters enable you to find the type of user you want to target your tweets at.
  • Analyse which of your followers are interested in #Blackfriday campaigns and connect with them individually.
  • Multiple reports can be generated to enable you to produce tweets specific to a selection of different segments.

We hope you find the graphs above useful, and have a safe and fun Thanksgiving weekend.
